I just read a blog post from one of my favorite blogs and it was about this season of penitence. I so want my children to have a deep relationship with Christ. I want them to know Him in a way I never did as a child. I want them to be grounded and so sure in their faith that when the pressures of this society pry upon them, they have the faith to stand and endure. When society around them tells them sin is not really sin, they have the strength to say the truth no matter what. The only way I can first teach them is by setting the example in my walk with Christ. And believe me when I say that I fall short so often. But they know that when we fall down, with grace and mercy we get up, and continue on.
During Lent, like Advent, we as a family have set a time apart for a deeper devotion. We decided to include a candle in our devotion time. Prayers and candles seem to go well with each other. The kids made beeswax candles, each of them rolled their own and then decorated a candle stick. To help track the days we have a little map that the kids can color each day of our Lenten journey. We are keeping track of our special prayers by recording them on slips of paper, sort of like a prayer journal so that the children can visual see where prayers have been answered.
And hopefully we'll start a new tradition of doing the Stations of the Cross on Fridays. These little personal station cards are great.

I want to encourage you that you are being a good momma and caution you about something you probably already know...parenting is a lot like praying, even when you do it with the best intentions your expected/hoped for results may vary.
Yes and amen!
