Sacred Parenting

I happened across a Roman Catholic mom's blog one day several months ago and she had a book list from which this book by Gary L. Thomas caught my eye. It's always been a desire of mine for Guido and I to read a book together and discuss it. We've made several pitiful attempts, before but this is the first book that we have both stuck out to read. It was a very deep and thoughtful book and while we first thought it was about parenting tips, it goes far deeper than that. As the cover of the book says, it's not a how-to book on parenting, but "turns the tables and demonstrates how God uses our kids to change us".

Here are some of the chapter headings:

The Hardest Hurt of All - how raising children teaches us to value character and service over comfort.

The God behind the Guilt - how raising children teaches us to deal with guilt

Vicious Vulnerability - how parenting confronts cowardice and builds courage

Burning Love - how raising chidren teaches us to handle anger

The Glory behind the Grime - how raising children teaches us to look beyond glamour and into glory

Xerox R Us - how raising children encourages us to improve our character

Leaving - how parenting teaches us to handle control and fear by leading us to trust and hope
