Veronica is 5 and it was a glorious birthday weekend. With a large family there's no need to invite any guest, the family is the party! She requested a Barbie cake. Publix has them but they're $50. So I guess it was up to me to make one from scratch. Well not exactly from scratch. Two cake mixes, 3 cans of frosting and i jar of pearlesent sugar later...
I used my Kitchen Aid mixing bowl for her body. I should have used 3 cake mixes so Barbie had to kneel in the cake. If I had thought about it more a cupcake around her waist would have also been sufficient. Things you learn along the way. I made the cake when Veronica was in school and while the two girls were napping. When Olivia woke up I asked if she wanted to see Onica's cake. We opened the refrigerator and my little girl's eyes sparkled with awe. "Wow, mommy" was all Olivia could say and it wasn't even her cake. I gotta tell you the pearlesent sugar made the cake. It would have been a very boring cake had it not been for that sparkling sugar.
When Veronica came home from school she blew out her candles and opened her presents. I tell you the family was generous and she was ecstatic! Lots of pajamas and clothes, necklaces and bracelets, lip gloss and a cute purse, not to mention the toys... It was a fantastic birthday celebration.
And now that I had a lovely cake stand (thanks Gloria) the presentation was even more stunning.
