Bread Machine 101

Found this beautiful bread machine at a garage sale for $5. I thought the offer was too good to be true. The woman who sold it said she hardly used it, so she was practically giving away a brand new machine. I have now been baking bread every other day on the machine but find that the bread is just so incredible dense. I've searched the Internet looking for lighter bread recipes but haven't found one yet. Can anyone give me a clue how to make good bread in a bread machine?

I realized now that some of my mistakes were not having the right water temperature for the yeast. My water was a little too warm. I've made another loaf of bread and it doubled in size and was much lighter.

So cool. The smell of fresh bread baking in the house must be so yummy. Or a nice slice of warm bread for your family must make you feel very satisfied.

Try adding extra gluten to the flour. You should be able to find it in the whole foods store, or if you are really lucky, in the grocery store. Look on the highest or lowest shelves near the baking mixes. I usually add about 1 tablespoon to 3 cups flour.
