Girly Fun

I'm not a big fan of promoting "princess" stuff. I've seen too many little girls prancing around thinking they rule the universe at 3 years old because they've watched a little too much Disney and think they own the castle. I would like to teach my daughter the value of being a servant first than royality. But I do want my child to know that she is the daughter of the Most High King. It's such a stuggle to find a balance.

Lifeway Christian store had a Princess Party celebrating Sheila Walsh's story about a little girl named Gigi. Veronica and her new playmate, Avery, joined the other little girls in the store for some girly fun. Needless to say my little girl did not want to be so girly. While others were getting their hair fixed and nails painted both Avery and Veronica vehemently asked not to participate. In the end after some coaxing, Veronica did get her nails painted. They had a little tea party and made crowns but I don't really think they learned anything about being God's princesses.

Although I do have girly girls they also love running around and bouncing off everywhere. I must say, though, I am not a big fan of the "Gigi" stories. I feel they fail to teach that God calls us to be servants (something I agree with you that should be taught to all children) and that as servants of Jesus Christ we suffer because Christ suffered. I think it can confuse the minds of little girls so young and vulnerable. Anyway, that's just my opinion, I guess. :) A little spa treatment is always nice, though!

I totally agree with you. I was disappointed by the books myself.
