Veronica's 2nd Birthday

Guido and I decorated the house last night for the party so that we wouldn't be running around this morning. When Xavier got out of bed and went into the living room he was so shocked! A loud shrill cry came from his mouth as he said "We're going to have a party!" It was 8am, and the party wasn't starting until 10:30am. You can only imagine the excited running around and cries of joy that 2 year olds can make together. What gave me great joy was that Xavi understood the day was for Veronica and didn't become at all jealous or upset that it wasn't for him. He was so happy for her.

Guido made two dog houses out of cardboard boxes and the kids were so excited to play with them. I made poodle ears for all the kids to wear and dogie collars for them to decorate with stickers. I also made some puppy cupcakes (although they didn't come out as pretty as I would have liked them). We had a 100% turn out on all the invites, the house was full of kids and parents. They played in the doghouse, made their craft, played in the playroom, ate lunch & sang "Happy Birthday" when the cupcakes came out. Everyone took a balloon and goody bag home and we were done by 1:00pm. Just in time for Veronica to crash for afternoon nap. All in all we had a good time. The kids all played well together and there was great joy in the house. We moms even had a chance to chat and laugh without interruption. Veronica hasn't opened all here presents yet, so I think we'll leave to that to some family celebration after dinner.
I can't believe my little one is already two. I now have 2 two-year olds for 1 month until Xavier turns 3 the first of October.

Our birthday prayer for Veronica, "O God, our times are in your hand: Look with favor, we pray, on Veronica as she begins another year. Grant that she may grow in wisdom and grace, and strengthen her trust in your goodness all the days of her life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

Here are some pictures from today:

The poodle ears and dogie collar. The poodle ears were made from a purchase at the Dollar store. I took a pink boa and cut it and slid a cheap headband (the headbands were from a pack of foil tiaras 4 for $1) I added some felt for the inner part of the ear. The dogie collar was made from foam board with velcro.

How do you ever get a 2 year old to pose for a picture?

It's been a long day, can I take a nap now, Mommy?

Happy Birthday Veronica! It sounds like it went by very smoothly and happily. I never realized that you would have a time when they were both the same age....2 two year olds...

It's very cool how Xavi was able to see that it was his sister's day and celebrate it.

Was mommy ready for a nap too?

Love the pink poodle ears. That was all so very creative and you did it all with your belly, I'm surprised you didn't go into labor. Hope your two year olds let you rest here and there.
