I can't believe I've already missed the first episode. I love this crazy show. My father warned me about soap operas when I was a teenager. This is definetly in the catogory of soap opera. I can't believe I've been sucked in.
Is it a soap Opera? I was thinking yesterday about all of us watching S.O. and how none of us would let our kids watch them but if Lost is one I may have to reevaluate.
What do I consider a soap opera? A show with an ongoing story and openended episodes that lead to the next episode. The main focus is on the characters and how they develop, there is an ongoing plot, and the episodes generally flow into each other, and the episodes build on what was developed before. So many story lines are interwined with each other. It may not be overly melodramatic like an afternoon soap, but to me it has the same elements. It keeps me constantly watching every week to find out what happened to so and so... If Lost had a different story that happened each week with a closing, then it would be more of a drama show to me. Like Dynasty and Dallas before it, it's a night time soap, just a modern twist of one.
