I've been transfixed by this picture by Henryk Semiradsky. Can you guess who the figures are in the painting? Yeah, it wasn't hard. It's a picture of Mary with Jesus and good ole Martha's in the background. Can you see her? "And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” ~Luke 10:41
I so relate to Martha in this story. I'm a do-er. I do things. I'm always moving around and its hard for me to be still. I'm careful about things - making sure I do things the right way, the sensible way, the most economical way. And I'm a worry wart.
So when my husband says things to me, "like sit with me for a while". I begin to fidget next to him almost immediately. When my children ask me to play I preface it with "in just a minute, let me do this one little thing".
So this summer I'm asking God to help me become more like Mary. Martha is a strong woman, and she has great talents and skills. But above those talents and skills God seeks the heart of the woman - not the skills, not the talents, not the looks, not the smart mouth, not her strength. He wants her heart. I'm offering mine.

"Be still" was in my thoughts yesterday while driving. I'm not a doer but the be still is still a problem...can totally relate to fidgeting durring couch time.
I'm such a Martha at heart. Thrive on plans and to-do lists. The beauty of being still has been something that I have learned during my time at home. It's a lovely thing.
Oh yes. I can definatly relate.
