Preparing for Easter

Holy Week for us is probably the busiest time for us as a family because Daddy is a clergyman. There are a lot of commitments for him during the week that take him away from us in the evenings. We still want to have good quality family time together and it seems that dinner is often the best opportunity for that to happen. We're going to celebrate a little Passover meal tonight with some Matzo Ball Soup and Charoset. It may not be a full out Seder Meal but it gets the kids in contact with some of the traditions of Passover and the door opens for us to talk about how Jesus, in his last week of life, went to celebrate Passover in Jerusalem. The kids watched the Prince of Egypt today to further understand how Passover began. It's opened some more conversation about Jesus being the sacrificial lamb for us all. On Sunday night we watched The Miracle Maker. It's a clay animation movie based on the life of Jesus. It was a pretty good movie and helped again foster more conversation about Jesus and the meaning behind Easter. Sure, we're probably going to color eggs and have an egg hunt, but I so want the kids to understand that Easter is about the new life Jesus gave to us all! How do you all celebrate Easter with your families?

We make resurrection rolls every Easter. We roll a marshmallow in butter and cinnamon to represent the oils and spices that were on Jesus and then wrap it up with a crescent roll and when you cook it, if you do it right then you end up with the yummiest empty tomb. It has always sounded neat when I've done it with the kids, but now it just sounds sacrilegious...
