Room By Room - Kitchen

Moving into the house has been much easier than I expected because the lovely parishioners of Church of the Good Shepherd spent several weeks sprucing up the house for us. They asked me what colors I wanted the rooms painted and then painted them. They also cleaned the house from the bathrooms to the cabinets so that all I had to do when I moved in was put my things away. The day we moved in they had dinner made for us and stayed until all the beds were made. It was such a smooth transition for us and such a blessing to me and Guido personally. This is not just a house, it became a home that very first day.

In that vein of making a house a home, I must tell you that I am decoratively challenged. I have a hard time knowing what things go together. Since most of our belongings are all hodgepodge hand-me-downs and bargain discount stuff, it's hard to know how to put it all together to make it look nice.
The original color of the kitchen was mustard yellow. I took a bold step and had the kitchen painted Spanish red. I thought this color would make the cabinet color pop out more. I also found this rich, beautiful upholstery fabric at a discount sale that I thought would make perfect curtains. It was only a dollar a pound so I bought 2 lbs. and now I have enough for curtains over the sink and the entire bay window by the breakfast nook. I don't think my mother was too fond of the color but I like it. I am still in the process of setting up the kitchen but when I'm finished I'll post a picture.

Who says you're decoratively challenged? Excellent combination...beautiful. I liked the yellow but the red seems calming for some reason...and I thought yello was supposed to do that!

I'm so glad that it has been a smooth transition and that your congregation helped do all the prep work to allow you to settle quickly. Can't wait too see all the pictures. It really is lovely Netta, it looks like it's your home...like you said, not just a house.
