Living History On The 4th

We spent our 4th of July at the Georgia Independence Festival at the historic Nash Farm Battlefield. Since both my husband and I are history lovers, we decided to go experience the 4th with a trip back to Colonial America. The festival had reenactments of battles between the British and Colonials along with the reading of the Declaration of Independence. The major characters like Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington mingled among the people. Everyone stayed in character all day so it was great to overhear conversations going on about things from Colonial times. For the kids there was a petting zoo, blacksmith demo, dancers and music from that time period. They also had some inflatables that the kids got to play with. The night ended with a wonderful display of fireworks which the kids did not enjoy, perhaps next year when they are older. But for the most part we all had a great day together.
