BPA is at unsafe levels in one of every 10 servings of canned foods (11%) and one of every 3 cans of infant formula (33%)
Watched a very disturbing documentary on PBS called "Chemicals In Your Food". It's about the chemical Bisphenol A (BPA), that can leach out of polycarbonate plastic. It's a chemical that mimics the action of the human hormone, estrogen, and according to the documentary our exposure to BPA is widespread. I found a Smart Plastics Guide, that gives a list of good plastic verses bad plastic products to use. I went through my kitchen and tried to see if I had any bad plastics in the house. To my dismay, I did. Believe it or not there are even some canned goods that have the BPA plastic lining the inside of their cans. We use Hunts spaghetti sauce because its good and also cheap. Unfortunately, they are lining their cans with BPA plastic. So know I have to rethink Spaghetti sauce. This BPA chemical is really bad for babies in utero. Thought I'd share what I found out.

I had heard about the issues with plastic leaching out and how it mimics hormones. They were theorizing it's connection with halth issues like hormonal imbalances (like PCOS)and earlier puberty development in little girls (along with the hormones they give cows to produce more milk). I also read how a consumer group is trying to ban all kinds of color additives in foods, but the FDA isn't supporting it. It was an interesting article though...it's on CNN.com in the health section. It's all very interesting and alarming.
halth = health
We have started a very organic diet in our house. I will definitely check out the list. It's scary to think of not only the plastics, but the growth hormones in vegetables and what they give to cows and chickens! I think the Amish don't get enough credit. We have started raising our own chickens and we take organic honey and apple cider vinegar everyday. It's a good remedy for a lot of sickness and joint pain. Ramble, ramble.....anyway, thanks for the comment on my blog. I always appreciate echoes from fellow pastor's wives!
Publix regular milk doesn't have hormones. Yeah for Publix!
